A Year of Transformation: Michael Reisner (CEO) reflects on POLO’s Milestones and Vision for the Future

Embracing Change: POLO’s Year of Transformation

In 2024, POLO experienced a year of transformation, including a significant shift in leadership. This change sparked a wave of new ideas and collaborations, allowing POLO to better meet the evolving needs of its customers. One of the most exciting milestones was the launch of POLO’s first machinery line, greenline—a sustainable solution designed specifically for paper packaging, featuring innovative barrier papers. As CEO Michael Reisner reflects on a year filled with pivotal moments and changes at POLO, we sat down with him for a brief interview to capture his insights, vision, and experiences during this transformative time.

Navigating a Year of Change: Insights from CEO Michael Reisner on POLO’s Growth and Innovation

Q1. Looking back on your first year as CEO, what has been your most rewarding achievement, and why?
Michael smiles, reflecting on the past year. “You know, looking back, the most rewarding achievement has been seeing how the whole company has come together in the face of challenges. It’s been a tough year with everything happening globally, but despite that, we’ve come out stronger. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to see the team’s resilience and how we’ve introduced new solutions that are already setting us up for a successful future.”

Q2. Talking about the new solutions, what inspired the greenline initiative, and what excites you most about its potential?
Michael chuckles softly and leans in. “greenline started because we saw an opportunity to lead in a sustainable way. With the growing demand for eco-friendly packaging and my own concern for the planet—especially with three kids—I knew we had to act. What excites me the most is that greenline isn’t just another product; it’s a complete solution. We’re offering sustainable materials, the machinery to process them, and even co-packing services all under one roof. It’s the kind of solution I believe will make a real difference.”

Q3. What surprised you the most in your first year as CEO?
Michael laughs lightly. “Honestly, what surprised me the most was how quickly everyone adapted. We’ve had to navigate some tough global conditions, but our team has been incredibly adaptable and positive. It’s humbling to see how everyone pulls together in tough times.”

Q4. Introducing something as ambitious as greenline must have come with its challenges. Can you share one, and how it shaped your approach?
“Definitely. The biggest challenge for greenline was launching it at Fachpack, one of the biggest trade shows, within a tight deadline. I quickly realized that it wasn’t just about delivering the product—it was about aligning the team, coordinating all the pieces, and staying organized under pressure. It was a real eye-opener in terms of project management and prioritization.”

Q5. As a leader, what has been the most humbling lesson you’ve learned this year about leading the team and fostering collaboration?
Michael pauses to weight his answer. “The most humbling lesson I’ve learned is the importance of leadership. It’s not enough to just have a vision; as a leader, I’ve learned that bringing everyone along with you is crucial. It’s about creating an environment where every team member feels valued and part of the journey. This year, I’ve really focused on fostering open communication and collaboration across the board, and I’ve seen how powerful it can be when everyone is aligned and empowered.”

Q6. Sustainability can feel overwhelming with all the initiatives out there. What makes greenline stand out from other sustainability projects?
Michael speaks with enthusiasm. “I think what makes greenline different is how we’re opening the door to sustainable packaging for everyone. Whether you’re a small business or a large corporation, we’re here to help you make the transition. We offer a full-service solution: sustainable materials, specialized machinery, and co-packing services, all from one trusted partner. It’s about making sustainability accessible.”

Q7. How do you stay resilient and focused during uncertain times?
Michael talks with confidence. “I try to stay focused on what really matters—our mission. Even when the world around us seems uncertain, I remind myself that we’re building something meaningful. And having such a supportive team makes a huge difference. When times get tough, I know we can lean on each other.”

Q8. What is your vision for the future of Polo Handel’s GmbH?
Michael’s face shows his excitement. “My vision for POLO is clear: we want to be the go-to partner for sustainable packaging solutions. We’ll be a one-stop provider that not only offers the best paper but also the machinery and expertise to make it work. We’re in the right place at the right time, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
